Early Access indie games dominate Steam sales charts

In recent years we have seen a rather significant rise in the number of Early Access indie games which have gone viral, with 2025 being no different. Though no official sales figures have been shared, one of this year’s biggest surprise hits – Schedule 1 – is estimated to be closing in on 10 million total copies sold, with R.E.P.O. doing even better.

Sharing their list of the top 10 best-selling Steam games in April 2025, Alinea Analytics’ data reveals two titles which currently stand above the rest.

Despite not launching in April, both Schedule 1 and R.E.P.O. dominated last month’s charts, with the former stated to have sold 4.7 million copies in April, bringing its total sales since its Early Access launch in late March to 7.7 million.

R.E.P.O. on the other hand sold-through 3.7 million units during the month of April, bringing its total estimated sales to 13 million since its Early Access arrival in late February.

Of course, while both games benefited from a great deal of online attention, the fact that two of the best-selling titles of the year on Steam are not only indie games, but Early Access ones to boot, is worthy of note.

It will be interesting to see whether both titles can maintain their current momentum. We will have to wait and see.
